Safe evacuation with children
Why prepare children specifically for evacuation?
Children require special attention in emergency situations. Proper preparation ensures their physical and emotional safety, while facilitating evacuation.
1. Prepare your Evakit bag specifically for children
– Your Evakit Kids already contains the right elements: child-friendly food rations, long-life water, comfort elements (little games to keep you entertained).
– Add their personal medicines, seasonal clothing, comfortable shoes and a reassuring object (cuddly toy, blanket, etc.).
2. Reassure them and explain the situation
– Explain the need to evacuate simply and calmly.
– Give them simple, reassuring instructions, and insist that you’re there to protect them.
3. Designate an adult to be responsible for the children
– Clearly assign an adult to supervise and provide constant support for the children. Please refer to our various guides on family escape plans.
– Regularly check their presence and their physical and emotional state.
4. Move calmly, at their own pace
– Move quickly, but without undue haste, adapting your pace to that of the children.
– Plan short breaks to catch your breath if necessary.
5. Manage their emotional stress
– Regularly reassure your children by simply explaining what’s going on.
– Use the little games included in your Evakit Kids to keep them busy and calm.
IN SUMMARY:
With children, adapt your Evakit Kids to their specific needs (medication, clothing, reassuring objects). Explain things calmly, designate a lead adult, constantly monitor their safety and emotional well-being, and use the reassurance provided to maintain calm and confidence.
A successful evacuation takes care of the children. Evakit Kids is here to help.
